Statement from Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen In Support of Rep. John Nygren's "HOPE" Legislation

MADISON — Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen today issued the following statement in support of Rep. John Nygren’s Heroin Opiate Prevention and Education (HOPE) legislation, Assembly Bills 445, 446, 447, and 448.

“These bills will save lives.  Law enforcement alone will not defeat the spiral, devastation and death heroin promises.  This action by the Legislature joins that of parents, friends, law enforcement and first responders across the state fighting to prevent and reduce opiate addiction.  We know it starts far too often in our own medicine cabinets with prescription drug abuse.  Representative Nygren’s bills do give hope in this fight.”

Last September, the Department of Justice (DOJ) launched “The Fly Effect,” Heroin prevention public awareness campaign to educate teens, young adults and others about Heroin and the consequences of using this highly dangerous illegal drug.
