MADISON — Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen today issued a formal opinion to Milwaukee County Deputy Corporation Counsel Mark Grady in which Van Hollen concluded that the Milwaukee County Board has express statutory authority to require county board confirmation of the county executive’s appointments of county department heads. The Attorney General also concluded that the board cannot require confirmation of appointments to other positions in the unclassified service except in those instances in which the Legislature has expressly authorized the board to require confirmation.
