Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen Issues Updated Wisconsin Public Records Compliance Outline


Revised edition of the Public Records Compliance Outline is available online.


MADISON — Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen is pleased to announce that a newly revised edition of the Wisconsin Public Records Compliance Outline is available online at the Department of Justice website. This latest edition of the outline addresses recent developments regarding the permissible fees for responding to public records and access to records of an authority's contractors. The September 2012 revision also has been enhanced with links to court cases cited in the outline. “Oversight of and openness in government are fundamental to our democracy,” Attorney General Van Hollen said. “Knowing Wisconsin's Public Records and Open Meetings laws helps to prevent violations and ensure our government is functioning as it was designed.”

Additionally, Attorney General Van Hollen invites the public, media representatives and government officials to register to attend free, upcoming DOJ seminars on the public records and open meetings laws with assistant attorneys general. The live programs will be held October 4, 2012, in Waukesha and October 15 in Fitchburg. A live webinar is scheduled for October 17.
