Former Monroe County Jailor Sentenced on Sexual Assault Charge


MADISON — Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced that Jerry Friedl, a former Monroe County jailor was sentenced on Monday, October 29, 2012 for sexually assaulting an inmate of the Monroe County jail in August of 2011. Monroe Circuit Court Judge Mark Goodman placed Friedl on 4 years of probation with the following conditions: that he serve 6 months in jail, comply with sex offender registry requirements, provide a DNA sample and pay the DNA surcharge, pay court costs, undergo a sex offender assessment and comply with any treatment recommended, and have no contact with the victim or her family.


Jerry Friedl pled to the charge of third degree sexual assault, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a $25,000 fine, on July 10, 2012.


The conviction was the result of an investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff's Department and Monroe County Sheriff's Department.


Assistant Attorney General Karie Cattanach, as a special prosecutor, represented the State for Monroe County. Monroe County Crime Victim Services provided victim services in this case.
