State Fire Marshal Assisting in Boscobel House Fire Investigation


BOSCOBEL — On January 19, 2012, at approximately 8:15 pm, the Boscobel Fire and Boscobel Police Departments were dispatched to a residential house fire at 404 East Bluff Street in the City of Boscobel.  After the fire was extinguished, evidence at the scene suggested the cause of the fire was suspicious in nature.


At the request of Fire Chief Jeff Boughton, the State Fire Marshal at the Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) was contacted to assist in the investigation.  This investigation remains open and ongoing.


On February 22, 2012, at approximately 9:00 am, a search warrant was served at the home of Chris T. Erickson, located at 318 North Mill Street in the Village of Wauzeka, Crawford County.  At 2:00 pm, Erickson was arrested and later booked in the Grant County Jail on charges of conspiracy to commit arson and party to the crime of arson.


The Boscobel Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Boscobel Fire Department, DCI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Grant County Sheriff’s and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Departments, Prairie du Chien Police Department, and the Waukon Police Department, in Iowa.


A defendant enjoys the presumption of innocence.  The State must prove its allegations at trial.
