Former Monroe County Jailor Bound Over on Sexual Assault Charges

SPARTA — A preliminary hearing was held today in which Judge Mark Goodman found probable cause exists to bind over former Monroe County jailor Jerry Friedl for sexually assaulting an inmate of the Monroe County jail in August of 2011.  The State also filed an information, alleging that Jerry E. Friedl had intimate sexual contact four times with a Monroe County jail inmate between August 5 and 17, 2011.

This case was investigated by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department and Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.  Assistant Attorney General Karie Cattanach represents the State of Wisconsin in this prosecution.

While Mr. Friedl has been charged with criminal offenses, he is presumed innocent at this time, and the State will need to prove him guilty of the offenses beyond a reasonable doubt.  A status conference will be scheduled in approximately 60 days.
