State Fire Marshal Tina Virgil invites media to experience the annual “Summer Camp for Burn Injured Youth”, developed by the non-profit Wisconsin Alliance for Fire Safety
MADISON — The State Fire Marshal, within the Department of Justice – Division of Criminal Investigation, is headed this Thursday to the annual “Summer Camp for Burn Injured Youth”, developed by the Wisconsin Alliance for Fire Safety, of which State Fire Marshal Tina Virgil is a board member.
“This annual camp is designed for young survivors of burn injuries. They've experienced something we hope no child ever has to endure – the trauma and pain associated with a fire event,” Virgil said. “I hope campers enjoy this week of having fun with their peers, and, as State Fire Marshal, I also hope spreading word about this volunteer-run camp serves as an important safety reminder for all of us.”
Camp is scheduled for August 11 through August 18, 2012. Media are encouraged to attend on Visitors' Day, August 16, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Camp Timberlee is located at N8705 Scout Road in East Troy. Visitors' Day also includes a fire truck parade and cookout.
The WAFS Burn Camp is free for campers ages seven to 17 from across Wisconsin. According to the WAFS website, “the purpose of the camp is to provide for the unique needs of burn injured youth, while they are having fun, making friends, sharing feeling and developing self-esteem.” Directions to the camp site also are available at: http://www.wafs.org/
