Antigo Man Charged with Possession of Marijuana

MADISON — Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced today that Jeffrey T. Neufeld, 41, of Antigo, Wisconsin, was charged with one count of possession of controlled substance, marijuana.  An initial appearance has been scheduled for April 30, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. in Langlade County Circuit Court.

This case arises out of a larger investigation by the Langlade County Sheriff’s Department into marijuana distribution activities in Langlade County.  According to the criminal complaint in this case, Neufeld admitted to purchasing marijuana on several occasions from Scot Peterson last year.  Peterson also admitted to police that Neufeld would pick up small amounts of marijuana regularly at Peterson’s house.  As part of this investigation, the Langlade County District Attorney’s Office charged Scot Peterson, Bradley Maahs, Steven Roehrig, and John Lund with felony drug charges.  That office also has charged seven other individuals with misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

The charge against Neufeld, a misdemeanor, carries a potential maximum penalty of a fine of not more than $1,000 or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both.

A defendant enjoys a presumption of innocence.  The prosecution must prove its allegations at trial beyond a reasonable doubt.
