MADISON — On January 27, 2012, a preliminary hearing was held in the case of State of Wisconsin v. Werner Rast in Green County Circuit Court before the Hon. James Beers. The Court found that probable cause existed to believe that Mr. Rast committed felonies and bound him over for trial. An arraignment is scheduled in the matter for February 3, 2012, at 9:00 a.m.
According to the criminal complaint, Mr. Rast was involved in taking bets on sporting events, including college and professional football, throughout a three year period. The investigation was conducted by the Monroe Police Department and the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation. The case is being handled by Assistant Attorney General Richard J. Dufour.
While Werner Rast has been charged with a criminal offense, he is presumed innocent and the State must prove him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
