Manitowoc Woman Pleads Guilty to Medicaid Assistance Fraud

MADISON — Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced today that a Manitowoc woman has been convicted of Medicaid Assistance Fraud. Sarah Becker, 37, 3303 Hecker Road Manitowoc, appeared before Sheboygan County Circuit Court Judge Terence Bourke and entered a plea of no contest to the charge which stems from her employment as a Registered Nurse.

According to the Department of Justice's criminal complaint, Becker was employed by Nurses in Independent Practice as a private duty nurse. Becker submitted timesheets indicating that between April 16, 2007 and September 23, 2008, she had provided medical services to the client she was assigned to care for when, in fact, she had not provided those services. Becker was paid $68,969.84 for those hours she claimed to have worked as a private duty nurse.

Sentencing is scheduled for August 30, 2011, at which time Becker may be fined not more than $25,000 or imprisoned not to exceed six years, or both.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Gabrysiak.
