St. Croix County Man to Pay $7,000 Fine For Improper Well and Pump Work

LAKE NEBAGAMON – The Wisconsin Department of Justice has reached a settlement agreement with Andrew P. Dahl, d/b/a Dahl Well Drilling, LLC, of Glenwood City, for violations of state laws regulating well drilling, pump installing, and safe drinking water.

According to the complaint, filed at the request of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Dahl is a licensed well driller who submitted 63 late water samples, 238 late well construction reports, and 26 late well abandonment reports. Dahl also installed 5 pumps when he did not have a pump installing license. Dahl, who cooperated with the Wisconsin Department of Justice, has submitted all late reports and water samples and obtained his pump installer license. There were no reported problems with the water samples or the wells and pumps. Dahl will be required to pay $7,000.00 in forfeitures, costs and surcharges, and must notify DNR in advance of any well or pump work until April 2012.

The settlement agreement was approved by the Hon. Judge Niess on February 18, 2011.

"We will continue to work with the DNR to make sure that Wisconsin's environmental laws maintaining safe drinking water are followed," said Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen.

Assistant Attorney General Mary Batt prosecuted the case.
