National Day of Remembrance For Murder Victims

WATERTOWN – Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen and the Wisconsin Department of Justice Office of Crime Victim Services will be hosting its third annual public observance of the National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims. The ceremony will be held this year in Watertown on Thursday, September 23. The theme of this year's ceremony is Remember. Remind. Respect. Attorney General Van Hollen will speak at the ceremony.

This National Day of Remembrance was established by Congress with unanimous bipartisan support at the request of the National Organization of Parents of Murdered Children, Inc., in order to honor all victims of murder and to recognize the impact of homicide on surviving families, loved ones and communities.

“I have looked into the faces and heard the voices of those who suffer every day because someone they love was violently taken from them,” said Van Hollen. “For every victim, there are family members - including children and other loved ones, co-workers, neighbors, teachers, and friends whose lives are changed forever.

The event is co-hosted by the Jefferson and Dodge Counties Victim and Witness Services.
