MADISON - Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced that on Monday September 13, 2010, attorneys for the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ), acting as special prosecutors for Juneau County filed criminal complaints in Juneau County Circuit Courtagainst Donald P. Coughlin and Daniel J. Coughlin with sexual assaults against children. The allegations are felony charges.
The charges are the result of a joint investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and the Juneau County Sheriff’s Department. “Investigation and prosecution of cases involving those who prey on children are a high priority of the Wisconsin Department of Justice and we will continue to assist local law enforcement and prosecutors in child maltreatment investigations,” said Attorney General J.B. Donald Coughlin and Daniel Coughlin were arrested by members of the Juneau County Sheriff’s Department and Special Agents from DCI. It is expected that the two men will make an initial appearance on the charges in Juneau County Circuit Court on September 14, 2010. A criminal complaint is a document alleging violation of the criminal law and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
Assistant Attorney General Dennis R. Krueger is representing the state as a special prosecutor for Juneau County.
