MADISON - Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced today that a Milwaukee County woman has been sentenced for a conviction of Neglect of a Patient. Abigail Mader, 30, 2092 S. 102nd Street, West Allis, pleaded guilty January 5, 2010, to one misdemeanor count of Neglect of a Patient and today was sentenced to 1 year probation. As a condition of probation Mader must perform 40 hours of community service.
According to the Department of Justice's criminal complaint, Mader was employed by Brightstar Healthcare as a home health aide. Mader had been assigned as a temporary caregiver for one day to care for a man who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis. The regular caregiver returned the next day to find the man calling for help. The man said that Mader had not come to care for him and he had been deprived of his medications, food and water for over 24 hours. When questioned, Mader said she was unable to locate the man's residence and after several unsuccessful calls to Brightstar for assistance, she returned home.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Gabrysiak.
