Joint Release from the Wisconsin Department of Justice and the Columbia County Sheriff's Office
MADISON - On June 27, 2010 at approximately 3:10 a.m. the Columbia County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call. The caller reported that a male subject was threatening to harm himself and had a gun. The Columbia County Sheriff's Office was given information of gun shots fired prior to arrival. A perimeter was set up as the suspect was on foot in the area. The suspect approached a deputy while armed and shots were fired.
First aid was given to the suspect on scene and the suspect was transported by med-flight to U.W. Hospital in Madison.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice at the request of Columbia County Sheriff Dennis Richards was called and asked to handle the investigation of the officer involved shooting and to process the scene.
