Prison Inmate Convicted on Multiple Counts of Tax Fraud

 

FOND DU LAC - Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced today that a Taycheedah inmate has been convicted of multiple counts of tax fraud in Fond du Lac County Circuit Court.  

 

Wendy Nelsen appeared in court and entered a guilty plea before Judge Peter L. Grimm.  Nelsen is convicted of six counts of homestead credit tax fraud as a repeater on each count.  At sentencing she faces a maximum of sixty years imprisonment and $60,000 in fines.  Nelsen claimed that she and other inmates were living in private residential rental properties when in reality they were incarcerated.  Nelsen's sentencing hearing is scheduled for August 5, 2010. 

 

This matter was investigated by the Wisconsin Department of Revenue and the Wisconsin State Capitol Police Department.  Assistant Attorney General Eric D. Defort represents the State of Wisconsin this case.
