BLACK RIVER FALLS – The Wisconsin Department of Justice and the Jackson County Sheriff's Officeare confirming that the name of the subject involved in yesterday's shooting incident is Michael D. Wenkle, a 50-year-old male.
Deputies responded to Wenkle's residence yesterday at approximately 1:07 p.m.upon a request from a friend to check on his welfare.
The name of the Deputy that was shot is Deputy Scott Bluedorn. He is in good condition. His injuries were non-life threatening. Sgt. Doug Utter received minor wounds that appear to be from shrapnel.
An autopsy of the suspect is scheduled for 2 p.m. this afternoon at the VA Hospital in Madison. Weapons were recovered from the residence.
The investigation remains ongoing. At the completion of the investigation the findings will be given to the Jackson County District Attorney's Office.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice at the request of Jackson County Sheriff Duane Waldera was called and asked to handle the investigation of the shooting.
