Nurse Sentenced in Theft Case

MADISON - Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced today that Shalonda Booth, 33, 4646 North 66th Street, Milwaukee, was sentenced on September 14, 2009 for a conviction of three counts of Theft in a Business Setting.  Booth appeared before Judge Mariann Sumi and entered a guilty plea to all three counts.  Prior to sentencing, Booth paid restitution in the amount of $30,247.74.  The court imposed a $500 fine for each of the three counts.

The charges stem from Booth's employment as a Registered Nurse providing in-home care for a Medicaid recipient.  Records show that Booth billed the State Medicaid Program for services that she never provided.  During an interview with an Investigator from the Department of Justice, Booth admitted having falsified records to make it appear she had worked on days when she had not.

The case was investigated by the Wisconsin Department of Justice's Medicaid Fraud Control and Elder Abuse Unit and was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Frank Remington.
