State Settles Environmental Case Against Humphrey Transport & Towing
LAFAYETTE - Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen today announced that the Wisconsin Department of Justice has settled an environmental lawsuit in Lafayette County Circuit Court. The State of Wisconsin brought this case against Steven Humphrey for violations of state air pollution laws.
Humphrey openly burned scrap metal, tires, metal car parts, auto parts including a bench seat, and treated lumber, among other things, on the property. He also had no license to operate a solid waste facility where he burned these items. He agreed to pay $2,500 in forfeitures.
"The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Wisconsin Department of Justice take these violations seriously because the public expects our air pollution laws to be followed," Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen said.
The case was investigated by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Wisconsin Assistant Attorney General Mary Batt represented the state. La Fayette County Circuit Court Judge William D. Johnston approved the settlement on May 21, 2009.
