Attorney General Van Hollen Announces Appointment Of Crime Victims Rights Board Member
MADISON - Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced today the appointment of Sheriff Keith Govier to serve as the law enforcement representative on the Wisconsin Crime Victim Rights Board (CVRB). Sheriff Govier was elected to his first term in the fall of 1996 and took office in January 1997. He is a board member on the Badger State Sheriffs' Association.
The Wisconsin Crime Victim Rights Board is a 5-member quasi-judicial body created by the legislature to enforce the state's crime victims' rights statutes. Board members are appointed by the Attorney General, the Governor, the Wisconsin District Attorney's Association and the Wisconsin Crime Victims Council to four year terms.
The Board reviews and investigates complaints filed against public officials by victims of crime alleging violations of their rights. "Victims of crime in Wisconsin are entitled to special protections by law," said Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen. "The Victims of Crimes Act is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year in April and I am pleased that Sheriff Grovier will help Wisconsin maintain its tradition of protecting the rights of victims throughout the state."
