The Madison Crime Laboratory was one of the first state-level laboratory in the nation. The laboratory is located on the near west side of Madison.

Laboratory Manager Bio:

Amy Lautenbach was appointed as the Laboratory Manager of the Madison Crime Laboratory in 2011.


Amy began her career in 1999 as a bench forensic chemist at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in Atlanta, GA, identifying the presence or absence of controlled substances and clandestine laboratory scene response and analysis. In 2003 she became a Laboratory Agent with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Denver laboratory (a sworn position) and continued to specialize in chemistry and clandestine laboratories. In 2011 she accepted her current position.


Amy holds a BS in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and an MS in Organizational Leadership and Strategic Business Management from Colorado State University.


Amy has served on the Board of Directors of the Clandestine Laboratory Investigating Chemists, and is a member of the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors.  Amy is an ISO assessor with the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board.
