The Investigative Records Unit maintains control of evidence and investigative records for the Division of Criminal Investigation. Investigative Records Unit staff members provide information gathering, program support and background searches for DCI agents.
This unit also serves as Wisconsin's liaison for the FBI's Violent Criminal Apprehension Program (ViCAP), a national data center organized to collect, collate and analyze specific investigative data, allowing local and state law enforcement agencies to link potentially related cases and helping to establish state and local crime trends.
Individuals wishing to obtain records from the Division of Criminal Investigation should send a written request to DCI Administrator David S. Matthews P. O. Box 7857, Madison WI 53707-7857.
