Janice Brazil Cummings serves as the Executive Director of the Wisconsin Department of Justice
/ Office of Crime Victim Services. She was appointed to that position in July 2007 by Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen. Prior to joining the executive team at DOJ, Jan worked for Wisconsin Department of Corrections / Probation and Parole for over 23 years. She held the position of Regional Chief since 1991, including over 10 years as the chief of Milwaukee County. Jan is an ordained minister and has received numerous awards for her work in the community, including the 2007 US Postal Service "Women Putting Their Stamp on Milwaukee" Humanitarian Award; the Virginia Hart Award honoring excellence in state government; and the Wisconsin Correctional Association's Dr. Juliette Martin-Thomas award for Excellence in the field of human services. In July 2007, Mayor Tom Barrett presented Jan with a proclamation naming July 10, 2007 as Janice Brazil Cummings Day in the City of Milwaukee. In addition to her pastoral training, Jan received her undergraduate degree and postgraduate studies at UW-Milwaukee. Recent community involvement around the greater Milwaukee area includes work on the city's Homicide Review Commission, the Milwaukee Commission on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, the United Way Healthy Girls project, and the Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee Restorative Justice Committee.
