VICTIM & WITNESS RIGHTS IN WISCONSIN
Victims' Rights Laws in Wisconsin
Wisconsin
enacted the nation's first "Bill of Rights for Victims and Witnesses of Crime."
Throughout the years, Wisconsin has continued
to lead the nation by providing victims with special rights, as established in a
state constitutional amendment (Article
I, section 9m, Wis. Const.) and
Chapter 950, Wis. Stats.

Exercising Your Rights
The Office of Crime Victim Services produced a brochure, Rights
and Services for Crime Victims and Witnesses to help victims and witnesses
understand their rights and how to exercise them. The brochure is available in
English,
Spanish, and
Hmong.
If you believe your rights have been violated, you can file a complaint with
the local agency in question. In most cases, the Department of Justice's
Victim
Resource Center can
help mediate a resolution to your complaint. If the issue cannot be
resolved through the Department of
Justice's informal complaint process, you have the right to file a complaint
with the Crime Victims' Rights Board.
