Children's Justice Act Program

In 1992, the Attorney General obtained a federal Children's Justice Act grant, administered by the Office of Child Abuse and Neglect under the federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act.  The grant funds allowed the Wisconsin Department of Justice to expand it's work in child sexual and physical abuse, neglect and juvenile delinquency through the creation of DOJ's Children's Justice Act Program.

The long-term goals of the Children's Justice Act Program, which is administered through the Wisconsin Department of Justice's Office of Crime Victim Services, are to improve the investigation and prosecution of child abuse and neglect cases, improve the handling of suspected child abuse and neglect-related fatalities, and improve the handling of cases in order to limit additional trauma to the child victim and family.  The Wisconsin Department of Justice is pursuing these goals through training the professionals involved in these cases, statutory analysis, direct assistance to prosecuting attorneys, and other means.
