Deputy Attorney General
Raymond P. Taffora was appointed Deputy Attorney General by Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen on January 1, 2007. As Deputy Attorney General, Mr. Taffora is the chief operating officer of the Department of Justice. Prior to his appointment as Deputy Attorney General, Mr. Taffora was an attorney in private practice for 16 years with the law firm of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP in Madison, Wisconsin, where he was a member of the firm's business, litigation and government practice groups. From 1987 to 1991, Mr. Taffora served as Chief Legal Counsel to then-Wisconsin Governor Tommy G. Thompson. In that capacity, Mr. Taffora also served as the Governor's Office liaison to the Department of Justice, as Chairman of the Governor's Pardon Advisory Board, as a member of the State Claims Board, and as the Governor's liaison to the Governor's Advisory Council on Judicial Selection. Mr. Taffora received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1983, and his law degree in 1986 from the University of Wisconsin Law School. Mr. Taffora is a former member and Chairman of the State Bar of Wisconsin's Bench/Bar Committee and currently serves as a member of the Board of Visitors of the University of Wisconsin Law School.
